Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management

For adolescents, puberty can be both confusing and exciting – as it is the time when most girls experience their first menstruation, which often takes most girls by surprise (because no one told or prepared them ahead of time). Also, there is a culture of silence around the subject of menstruation which makes people uncomfortable to discuss the subject, let alone hold it with adolescents. Our “Dignity Hygiene Program” focuses on providing relevant menstruation information and menstrual hygiene products to enable the girl-child manage her period hygienically, safely, and in dignity, as well as stay in school clean, comfortable and confident. Its objective is to promote menstrual hygiene, prevent teenage pregnancy, and build confident young girls who overcome limitations to achieving their life goals. It includes advocacy to break the ‘period silence’ and to influence policies on adolescent reproductive health.
